When a Mercedes-Benz Key Fob Battery Needs Replacement

If you spot any of the following warning signs with your Mercedes-Benz while driving around Modesto, then it’s probably time to replace the battery in your Mercedes-Benz key fob.

  • Your vehicle is more difficult to start than usual, sometimes taking several tries with the key fob to get it started.
  • You lose the ability to use the lock, unlock, or panic buttons on your key fob.

How to Replace Your Mercedes-Benz Key Fob Battery

When it’s time to replace your Mercedes-Benz key battery for your Stockton vehicle, the steps you take depend on the kind of key you have. The first thing you want to do is determine the type of key fob – a newer Chrome SmartKey® or an older SmartKey®.

  • If you have a Chrome SmartKey®, you’ll need one CR2025 battery. If you have an older SmartKey®, you’ll need two batteries.
  • For the Chrome SmartKey®: Pull the tab at the bottom, push the key into the narrow end of the slot to remove the outside cover, then replace the battery inside.
  • For the older SmartKey®: Pull the latch at the end of the key holder, push the key horizontally into the open slot, lift the battery out of the inner compartment, and replace it.
