If you’re driving around Stockton, you’ve probably noticed the hood ornament on Mercedes-Benz models. Learn more about the history of the Mercedes-Benz logo here at Mercedes-Benz of Modesto.

Mercedes-Benz Logo Meaning

When automotive visionary Gottlieb Daimler first doodled the Mercedes-Benz logo back in 1872, it would have been hard to imagine how iconic the three-pointed Mercedes-Benz badge would eventually become. When it was originally created, though, the three-pointed logo stood for transportation command on land, water, and air.

Mercedes-Benz Logo History

While the Mercedes-Benz logo has its origins in an 1872, it wasn’t until the 1920s that it took on a shape similar to the one we know today. In 1926, German automotive companies Daimler and Benz merged together, establishing Daimler-Benz AG in Stuttgart, Germany.

At that time, the face of the Mercedes-Benz badge was enclosed into a circle. This marks the birth of the Mercedes-Benz brand mark we recognize today. Over the course of the last century, there have been a couple different spins on the enclosed three-pointed star. For most of its history, the brand name has been enclosed within the circle that surrounds the star, but in 2008 Mercedes-Benz removed the name from the logo and replaced it with a simple, sleek, and silver circle surround.
