Synthetic Oil vs. Regular Oil

First, you may be wondering, “What is synthetic oil?” Synthetic oil is comprised of a base oil, powder additives, and a carrier oil that allows the additives to be distributed evenly. Like regular oil, it’s made from refined crude oils. The main difference between the two is the amount of refining involved. Synthetic oil is refined, distilled, purified, and broken down at the molecular level. This gives it several advantages over conventional oils, including:

  • Less friction due to similar molecule sizes
  • Reduced deposits
  • Cleaner engine operation due to additives
  • Higher performance in extreme climates
  • Fewer impurities in the final product
